The committee described updates that track CSBA revisions and state law changes: nondiscrimination language was clarified to reflect combinations of protected characteristics and to expand prohibitions on derogatory team names; charter authorization language was updated for timeline and material-revision processes; lactation-accommodation language was clarified to align with state and federal breaks and location requirements; directory information rules were refined; independent study guidance was updated to reflect recent state law on attendance and asynchronous instruction; and board bylaw language on disclosure of privileged information was clarified to include closed-session materials.
Trustees discussed who should present committee recommendations to the full board and whether staff should present committee work; one trustee asked that the superintendent continue to be part of policy rollouts while others appreciated trustees— detailed committee briefings. A public commenter raised concerns about the physical conditions of lactation rooms at school sites.
The committee said these updates will go through the board—s two-reading process as required.
