District to replace North Mesa and South Mesa preschool playgrounds with $292,972 project

Pueblo County School District 70 will replace playground equipment at its North Mesa and South Mesa preschools under a project the district estimates at $292,972.37, Dr. Martinez told the board Sept. 23.
"The project's $292,972.37. Game Time gave us a grant of a $100,972.37, so bringing our cost down to just 200," Dr. Martinez said, adding the district plans to supplement the grant with carried-over preschool funds. She said construction is hoped to begin in mid-November and take about two weeks to complete.
Dr. Martinez described the play structures as ADA-accessible and said each site will receive a main structure, a dual rocker and seating for families. "Children, who are in wheelchairs can access all of the... sites and equipment," she said. The district plans to use pea gravel for surfacing and to have the district maintenance department replace surrounding fences.
Dr. Martinez said the procurement used the district's Omnia Partners contract to speed the process and obtain more affordable pricing. The board did not record a separate vote on the purchase during the public portion of the transcript; the item was presented for approval.
