The Local JRAAC Board in Vanderburgh County voted Dec. 12 to approve a reconciled 2025 DOC budget that adds three county-funded residential officer positions and provides $30,000 for general office expenses across three programs.
The board heard from staff that the budget process began with an April version submitted to the state DOC and a county-format submission later in the year. Staff said the county accepted a request to fund three residential officer positions previously held vacant for financial reasons and provided $30,000 to cover general office expenses across the programs. Staff also described a new auditing requirement that the grant balance be projected to zero rather than paid down over time.
Board members asked whether the newly funded positions are filled; staff replied they are not yet filled and that interviews are underway with hires expected to begin in January when the budget takes effect. The board discussed how the added positions would primarily support work-release operations while also performing duties across the DOC-funded programs.
A motion to approve the budgets presented at the meeting was made and seconded; the board approved the package by voice vote.
The board will implement the changes when the budget year begins and monitor hiring progress and budget reconciliation under the auditor’s new projection rules. Staff said they would bring additional details on hires and any budget-line implementation at future meetings.
