Taos council forms commission to consider renaming Kit Carson Park; public invited to apply by Jan. 7

The Town of Taos on Dec. 10 approved Resolution 24-51 to establish a five-member commission to evaluate and recommend a possible new name for Kit Carson Park, 211 Paseo de Pueblo Norte. Councilor Genevieve Boswell presented the resolution and said it will allow the council to appoint five members, including a councilor, and return a recommendation to the governing body.
Boswell said several community members had already expressed interest; she encouraged broad outreach, including to tribal communities and the Kit Carson board, and asked the mayor to consult with Taos Pueblo on a potential appointee. The mayor confirmed letters of interest will be accepted through Jan. 7 and that the appointment process will be posted.
Council approved the resolution by roll call. Staff indicated the item will be scheduled for the next regular meeting in January to consider appointments.
What happens next: Residents interested in serving have until Jan. 7 to submit letters of interest; mayoral appointments will be brought to the council for confirmation at a future meeting.
