The Town of Taos granted approval on Dec. 10 for organizers to close Bent Street on Dec. 14 from noon to 9 p.m. for the annual Bent Street bonfires event. Organizer Warren Hauser described prior-year attendance and food distribution, noting last year the event served roughly 2,500 meals and included tamales, hot cocoa and community singing.
Town staff reported a pre-event planning meeting with the fire chief and police chief and said the organizers are finalizing a separate insurance policy for the event; Hauser said the underwritten insurance will be provided to the town before the event. The council voted to approve the street closure and the town announced it will offer free parking for event attendees.
What happens next: Organizers will provide the town with the required insurance documentation and coordinate final logistics with police and fire ahead of Dec. 14.
