The council adopted Resolution 24-35 on Nov. 26 to establish standard hangar and land lease terms for the Taos Regional Airport.
Airport staff said the leases were vetted by legal counsel and the airport advisory board, which voted unanimously to recommend the agreements. The resolution sets hangar rental rates at $3.25 per month and a land lease rate for hangar construction at $0.60 per square foot annually; the leases include language limiting non-aeronautical storage in federally obligated airport spaces.
Town staff and legal counsel explained provisions for enforcement, insurance and responsibility for regular wear items (for example, door winches). Staff said structural repairs beyond normal wear-and-tear remain the town's responsibility, while regular maintenance of commonly used equipment may be the lessee's responsibility as negotiated in the lease.
Council approved the resolution by roll call; staff said the agreements would provide clarity for current tenants and future hangar development while complying with FAA grant obligations.
