The Stanton City Council held a ceremonial portion of its Dec. 10 meeting to swear in newly elected council members and honor outgoing members and staff.

Victor Barrios and John Douglas Warren each took the oath of office in front of the council and attendees. Representatives from local legislative offices presented certificates of recognition. Both newly sworn members offered remarks emphasizing community service and continuity.

The council also completed its reorganization for the new term: after nominations and a vote, Council Member Donald Torres was elected Mayor Pro Tem by a 4‑1 vote; Council Member Gary Taylor cast the lone dissenting vote.

The council recognized outgoing Mayor Pro Tem Carol Warren and Council Member Alice Vann for their years of service with tributes from colleagues and community speakers. Remarks cited long institutional service, fiscal leadership, civic events and constituent work.

Orange County Fire Authority Chief Steve delivered the OCFA monthly report for November 2024, noting 410 incidents within city boundaries (21 fires, 355 EMS, 34 hazardous materials/miscellaneous) and described two incidents in detail: a Nov. 22 supermarket roof fire caused by malfunctioning solar panels that was isolated to the panels, and a Nov. 30 residential fire during which crews rescued an unresponsive patient and later nominated the on‑scene crew for unit citations.

Chief Steve said this was his final OCFA report to Stanton and invited the council and public to his retirement luncheon on Dec. 19 at Fire Station 61.
