Taylor ISD bond projects near completion as contingency funds begin to return to district

Trustees were told the district’s bond construction program is advancing on schedule, with several campus projects moving into final exterior work and mechanical startups.

A district project manager reported the Taylor High School career and technical education (CTE) center is progressing toward mechanical startup this month and that furniture and welding booths are expected to arrive early next year. Middle-school and elementary projects, including MSE and TH Johnson, show new canopies, stucco and metal panels being installed and parking work scheduled during school breaks to minimize disruption.

The manager said about $12 million of bond funds remain uncommitted and that roughly $2.1–2.2 million is held in contingency across projects; as jobs close out, some contingency will return to the district for future priorities such as land purchase and additional design work. The district noted a small amount of site work at Poznan and limited schedule shifts for the maintenance building that may extend into January because of coordination with school calendars.

Trustees raised one construction-detail issue after a site walkthrough — a kitchen pass-through height that will require specialty cutting and a change order. Construction staff said a quote had been obtained and that the team is documenting such items and will circulate details to the superintendent for follow-up.

The board received photographs of recent progress and asked staff to continue coordination to ensure timely occupancy and minimal disruption once students return.
