Commission approves two charter‑school budget amendments totaling over $1.9 million

For Aventura City of Excellence School (ACES), staff recommended and the commission adopted an amendment increasing the FY 2024‑25 charter school fund by $338,030. According to the manager’s presentation, the adjustment included $185,000 of additional capital outlay funding received from the state, $160,000 in district referendum funds earmarked for teacher stipends, $88,000 to expand student tutoring hours, and $162,170 for higher pupil transportation costs. The manager said additional revenues fully offset the increased expenditures.
For Don Soffer Aventura High School, the commission approved a mid‑year amendment reflecting a $1,589,765 increase in net revenue and a $705,882 increase in net expenditures. Staff attributed the change primarily to higher student enrollment and additional capital outlay reimbursements from the state and referendum stipends; the record notes the city is the applicant for one of the related zoning/code adjustments earlier in the agenda and that representatives of related projects attended the meeting but were not the applicants for the school items.
Neither item drew public comment at the hearing. Commissioners voted unanimously to adopt both amendments on second reading.
