Evansville opens sealed bids for 2.4-mile Next Level Trail phase; single resurfacing quote received for Diamond Valley courts

The Evansville City Parks Department opened sealed bids Nov. 20 for Phase 1 of the Next Level Trail, a 2.4-mile segment that will connect the Walnut Trail near the State Hospital through Wesselman Park. Staff read four bid packages and detailed unit prices; purchasing will review bidder documentation before any award.
Paul Balsman, deputy director, said the project was phased and that Phase 1 sealed bids were being opened. Bids announced included Dike Brothers Lumber & Construction Co. (base bid $788,850), Sam Trucking & Excavating (base bid $706,594.35), Rivertown Construction (base bid $553,870) and Garman Construction Services (base bid $665,990). A detailed unit-price schedule for items such as mobilization, erosion control, curb work and concrete sidewalks was read for each bidder.
Procurement staff told the board they would take the bids under advisement and review all submitted documentation. "We'll let the purchasing department review the bids for all necessary documentation and everything and take these under advisement, please," a staff member said.
Separately, staff opened a single lump-sum quote from Superior Asphalt for $24,500 to resurface the Diamond Valley basketball courts; that quote will also be reviewed by purchasing.
Next steps: Purchasing will review bids and return recommendations to the board; no contracts were awarded at the Nov. 20 meeting.
