Evansville Parks Board approves new adult-hockey team fee, event pricing and facility contract; opens trail bids

Miss Lord, presenting the hockey proposal, said the team-rate option would allow some teams to secure sponsorships or spread costs across a larger roster while keeping the existing $160 individual registration available. "That way, if they wanna get sponsorships to pay for their teams, they're able to do so," she said. Board members asked how the $2,100 figure was calculated; Miss Lord replied that it reflected a typical $160 per individual rate capped at about 15 players.
The board also approved special pricing for the rink's Dec. 7 "Pancakes and Pajamas with Santa" event, agreeing to a $7 flat rate for attendees rather than separate adult and child admissions. Director Crook described the pancake event as the program's third annual and said the flat rate simplifies admission and encourages attendance.
On facility maintenance, the board approved execution of a revised agreement related to replacement of rooftop Units 2 and 3 at Swander Ice Arena, which staff said had already been approved and signed and is now being formally tied up with the contractor's signature. Director Crook also sought approval of a small change order — $11.87 — for the community kitchen to add cabling for a police simulator room; Crook emphasized that the funds come from ARPA allocations and not the parks department budget and that the work will close out the project.
"These funds were not parks department funds," Crook said, adding that inspections are complete and the change order is meant to correct an omission from the original scope.
The board authorized a recurring Black Friday promotion for the city's golf courses — for every $100 in gift certificates purchased, an additional $15 will be added — a program staff said has generated meaningful revenue in past years.
Most items were approved by voice vote after brief discussion. The board accepted payroll and vendor claims later in the meeting and adjourned.
What happens next: Purchasing and staff will finalize contract paperwork where required and take opened bids under advisement for review and recommendation to the board at a future meeting.
