Evansville opens demolition bids and takes low bidders under advisement for a dozen properties

The City of Evansville Board of Public Safety opened and reviewed sealed demolition bids for a list of properties Dec. 18 and voted to take the staff-identified low bids under advisement.
Kim of the building commission asked the board to open bids for a dozen addresses, including 2833 Denison St., 815 South Elliott St., 1707 South Ferris Ave., 1121 Fountain Ave., and others. A city attorney/board clerk read bid amounts submitted by three contractors for each property. Staff identified the apparent low bidder for each address—naming Semlee/STEMI (semlee/stemley), Velpen/Velpen Excavating, and Highdorn/Highdorn Excavating in various combinations—and asked the board to take those low bids under advisement.
A board member moved to accept staff’s recommendation to take the low bids under advisement; the motion was seconded and carried. The board’s action at the meeting authorized staff to proceed with the procurement process consistent with normal follow-up (bonding/insurance and contract compliance checks) rather than awarding immediate contracts at the meeting.
Board members did not set award conditions in public beyond taking the low bids under advisement; staff will return with final award recommendations and required documentation as procurement rules and local procedures dictate.
