The City of Evansville Board of Public Safety voted Nov. 20 to grant a temporary parking permit allowing a resident to keep a vendor trailer at 911 East Mulberry for 90 days.
Rafael Miles, who identified himself at the podium as the resident and applicant, told the board he cannot afford storage for the trailer after a custody‑related expense. "I don't have the means right now to put it in storage," Miles said, explaining he lacks space in a shared driveway and that a generator to operate the trailer costs about $200–$300 a day.
Board members questioned whether the trailer would obstruct traffic or views on the street and whether the applicant had discussed the arrangement with neighbors. A board member who reviewed the property on Google Maps confirmed the driveway is shared and that rear storage would not accommodate the trailer. The chair proposed a 90‑day permit to balance Miles’s needs with neighborhood concerns and the board approved the motion.
Under the board’s decision, city staff will issue the permit (to be emailed or mailed to Miles), notify the police department’s crime‑prevention unit so officers know the trailer is permitted at that address, and send Miles a 30‑day notice before the permit expires. The chair proposed using March 1 as the expiration date; the board recorded the approval and will reconsider an extension only if Miles returns to request one.
The board emphasized the permit is temporary and asked Miles to seek alternate storage during that period. The next Board of Public Safety meeting is scheduled for Dec. 4.
