Hamilton Council backs two Class 5 cannabis retail applicants, with one abstention

Hamilton Township’s council on Dec. 17 approved two separate letters of municipal support for Class 5 recreational cannabis retail applications.
The council moved and approved Resolution 224-451 supporting Blazon Brown Suga LLC’s application after applicant Tan McCray described finding an “ideal property,” said the business expects to hire 10 to 20 employees (preferably from Hamilton) and said the project would next pursue Planning Board review after Cannabis Regulatory Commission (CRC) steps. Tan said the CRC conversion process was in its final stages.
Later the council heard from Chuck Lattini (planner) and Grant Troeger (head of retail operations for Northeast Alternatives New Jersey LLC) about another candidate site. Lattini said the team had located a suitable property (the TGI Friday site was mentioned) and expected only interior fit-out work before operations, but noted that Planning Board approvals and CRC licensing remain required.
Council President Anthony reminded the public that township ordinance caps the number of cannabis retail entities at three, and the council recorded one abstention: Councilman Tai abstained from both cannabis-item roll calls and cited work with the New Jersey Economic Development Authority as his reason. The motions otherwise carried (recorded outcome 4-1 on at least one of the cannabis-support resolutions).
Both applicants were told that CRC approval and the Planning Board process are next steps; the council’s letters are part of the application packages sent to the state licensing authority.
