County approves asbestos cleanup contract for EMS building; estimated near $25,000

Mr. White presented results of an inspection that found asbestos present in the tile adhesive (not the tiles themselves). The contractor quoted remediation at $1.85 per square foot (with a potential reduced rate of $1.65 per square foot for a ~15,000 sq ft area), and White estimated cleanup costs "almost $25,000". Chair asked whether funds would come from insurance reimbursement and was told the insurance would cover the work; commissioners approved the contract with the condition that the discounted price be put in writing.
Commissioner (speaker 3) moved to approve the agreement contingent on written confirmation of the discount and to proceed; motion was seconded and the board voted to approve.
