Alma Ferrufino, director (city staff), introduced owner Iris Jacob, who described planned interior work at 3401 Newton Street. Jacob said the project will involve basement renovation with underpinning to allow two additional bedrooms and a bathroom; she said the work is entirely interior and that Prince George’s County has already issued the county permit.
City staff reminded the owner of local rules around construction hours (no work before 8 a.m. or after 8 p.m.), protections for trees and best practices for managing excavated soil so it does not spill onto sidewalks. The council thanked the owner for investing in Mount Rainier’s housing stock; no additional action or vote was recorded and staff will coordinate final permit steps with the owner.
