District staff and architect RJ Lopez told the board that major construction projects are advancing on schedule. The Del Norte project had a notice to proceed in March 2025 and staff described substantial-completion milestones targeted for 2027; similar floor plans for Heizer middle school were presented with phased demolition and field construction noted to maintain school operations during build-out.
Lopez walked trustees through site maps, parking and current progress photos showing poured concrete slabs, steel erection and concrete decks. Staff said the Del Norte schedule indicated substantial completion in May 2027 while Heizer was projected for June (staff made a clarifying remark that both new middle schools would be occupied in 2027). The presentation included a reminder that PSFA (state facilities authority) review and scheduling have required additional coordination and that PSFA leadership turnover has affected timelines.
Other district projects discussed included HVAC and electrical upgrades at Taylor and Mills (engineering services completed with cost estimates pending), a PSFA pre-application for fire alarm systems at College Lane and Stone, roofing repair quotes pending CES pricing, interior door replacements at Coronado, Watson Stadium multipurpose renovations scheduled to kick off Dec. 1, and security fencing at multiple campuses to begin after Christmas.
Board members thanked the presenters and commended the facilities team. No action was required; the presentation was informational and staff will bring cost estimates and contracts back to the board as projects progress.
