The board discussed a revised superintendent evaluation template at the Nov. 19 work session, including six standards with rating bands from "unacceptable" to "excellent" and a goals section. The chair said the template was revised against the district strategic plan and board goals, and noted the board must be prepared to evaluate the superintendent in January with a targeted feedback survey.
Members disagreed about including numerical, measurable goals immediately versus adopting a less prescriptive standards document and developing goals with the superintendent. One trustee recommended adopting the standards now and treating measurable goals as a work in progress; another urged waiting for the superintendent’s input and more time for board review. The board agreed to revisit the evaluation materials in December and to develop the targeted feedback survey for January.
No formal adoption occurred at the work session; trustees assigned homework to review the document and asked staff to circulate materials for December’s meeting so the board can finalize its approach before evaluations begin in January.
