Rialto Unified accepts grants and recognizes nutrition team after national awards

At the Dec. 18 meeting, Rialto Unified used presentations to highlight outside support and district recognition of program success.
Dr. Rhea MacGyver Gibbs accepted an education grant on behalf of Eisenhower High School from the Verona Band of Mission Indians (presented in partnership with Assemblymember James Ramos' office). District staff said the $5,000 award will support expansion of band and music opportunities at Eisenhower.
Trustees also recognized the district’s child nutrition services after staff won multiple awards at the U.S. Department of Agriculture Healthy Meals Summit. Nutrition staff described a spotlight on the district’s farm‑to‑cafeteria program and its work on culturally appropriate meals and nutrition education. The board accepted the USDA Fresh Fruit & Vegetable Program allocation of $577,563.90 to support fruit and vegetable programming at 17 named elementary schools, and praised the nutrition team’s national recognition.
Speakers thanked community partners, district staff and the supervisor/assembly representative for their support. Board members and staff said the awards and grants will be used to enhance student programming and nutrition education.
Next steps: District staff will apply funds according to grant terms and incorporate awarded program support into school plans.
