Votes at a glance: Hinsdale D86 approves levy, calendars, IGAs and routine items
Summary
At its Dec. 12 meeting the District 86 board adopted a $104,464,937 tax levy, approved school calendars for 2025–26 and 2026–27 (each passed 6–1), awarded construction contracts, approved multiple intergovernmental and use agreements, and adopted the consent agenda; most measures passed unanimously.
The Board of Education for Hinsdale Township High School District 86 approved a slate of motions and resolutions at its Dec. 12 regular meeting. Key outcomes:
- Adopted the 2024 tax levy in the aggregate amount of $104,464,937 (excludes $12,165,549 in existing-bond debt service); roll-call vote recorded seven ayes and the motion carried. (Administration presented Resolution No. 25.04 authorizing the final levy.)
- Approved revised 2025–26 school year calendar (motion carried 6–1). Member Waters prefaced and cast the lone no vote saying, “I’m voting no ... for the concern that total instructional hours are less than they were pre pandemic.”
- Approved proposed 2026–27 school year calendar (motion carried 6–1). Member Waters again cast the dissenting vote.
- Awarded multiple summer 2025 construction bid packages to recommended bidders (motion carried 7–0). See district materials for a full list of bidders and amounts.
- Approved IGA with the Village of Clarendon Hills regarding the proposed 50 Fifth Street TIF District (motion carried 7–0).
- Authorized legal counsel Odelson, Murphy, Frasier & McGrath Ltd. to intervene in property tax assessment appeals on the district’s behalf (Resolution No. 25.05; motion carried 7–0).
- Approved use of Hinsdale Central’s name/logo by Community Memorial Foundation through May 2025, with the board retaining the right to revoke permission (motion carried 7–0).
- Directed district counsel to coordinate with the Hinsdale Historical Society on release of student images for a proposed book (motion carried 7–0).
- Approved the consent agenda, which included routine items and previously discussed matters (motion carried 7–0).
Several votes were recorded by roll call and are captured in the meeting minutes; where board members were recorded by name in the roll calls, votes were entered as read into the record. No measures were tabled or failed at the meeting. The board adjourned at 7:16 p.m.
