Umatilla โ The City of Umatilla formally recognized local police and firefighters Tuesday for life-saving actions during a Nov. 6 apartment fire.
Fire and police personnel arrived on scene, conducted a search with a thermal imaging camera, removed the trapped resident and evacuated exposure units, Chief and council said. In a read statement the city presented certificates "in recognition of your courageous and life saving actions at the scene of an apartment fire on 11/06/2024," thanking the officers and firefighters for their service.
Mayor Seidt and council members praised the response and encouraged community gratitude for first responders. Several attendees, including former classmates of personnel being honored, spoke briefly about pride in local emergency staff.
The recognition took place early in the meeting before agenda business and preceded extended discussion about emergency communications triggered by a separate incident involving a Lifeways facility escape.
