Sutherlin Council OKs $2.03 million amendment for Fire Station 1 seismic work

The Sutherlin City Council on Monday approved an amendment to the construction manager/general contractor contract for Fire Station 1 to add seismic improvements and expand a bay to accommodate a future ladder truck.
City staff told council the amendment totals $2,030,737 and said the project remains within an earlier grant for the station, which staff described as "approximately 2 and a half million dollars." Christy Gillard, community development, introduced the item and explained the added scope is to accommodate a larger ladder truck in the future.
Councilors asked whether the amendment would exceed the grant and whether additional funds would be needed. City staff said the grant of about $2.5 million covers the station project "and so with these services, without the extra scope, we're still under budget of that 2 and a half million dollars," and that the amendment is covered by current funding.
After brief discussion, a motion to approve the CM/GC contract amendment was made and seconded. Council cast roll-call votes and the motion passed with ayes recorded from Councilor Smalley, Councilor Crossman, Councilor Hamilton, Councilor Woods, Councilor Bagel, Councilor Whitaker and Mayor Simon.
The council did not provide a revised project schedule during the meeting. The amendment authorizes staff to proceed with the next construction phase to complete seismic improvements and bay expansion; follow-up materials or formal budget documents may provide further detail on funding sources and timelines.
