Fairview council adopts minutes, hears sheriff and staff reports and discusses audits

After the county presentations, Fairview’s City Council convened the formal meeting, completed roll call and recited the pledge. The council read a proclamation recognizing November 2024 as National American Indian Heritage Month.
A motion to adopt the minutes of Nov. 6, 2024 passed with a voice vote. "Motion to adopt the minutes of November 6, 2024," was moved and the minutes were approved with council saying "Aye."
The Memorial County Sheriff’s Office reported October activity counts, awarded recognition for deputy work and said the county’s speed-trailer will be deployed along Burleigh Parkway between Halsey and the I‑84 ramps to address speeding concerns.
Public works reported on a recent open house for Whistleblow Vista residents (15–20 attendees), answered questions about potential street-light assessments through the county lighting district, noted a new plow/sander vehicle entering service, and confirmed the city implemented a state e-permitting system this month.
Councilors also expressed concern about delays in completing city audits. Staff reported some requested grant documentation for the 2021 audit remains missing from city files and that city staff are reaching out to granting agencies to obtain copies; the city is actively re-advertising for a finance director and hopes to hold interviews after Thanksgiving.
Other routine items included parks commission updates (planned free fishing day event), reminders about the city Christmas tree lighting on Dec. 7 and a report that the Joint Office of Homeless Services awarded outreach funding for East County to the Salvation Army, with operations expected by late December or early January.
The council moved to adjourn at the end of the meeting and the motion carried by voice vote.
