Talent wins $1.5 million Business Oregon grant to buy 49 Talent Avenue for community resource center

City Manager Gary announced Dec. 18 that Talent has received a Business Oregon grant award letter for $1,500,000 to acquire the property at 49 Talent Avenue to be used as a community resource center.
According to Gary, the award covers both acquisition and an additional $150,000 allocated for initial remodeling and architectural services. "We now await the grant agreement," Gary said, and staff will develop a plan to solicit input from occupants of current city buildings about relocating to the new facility.
Gary said staff is working on timelines and noted the city will need to return a signed grant agreement before the city can proceed. Council members asked whether local community groups (including the food pantry and other community‑based organizations) would be part of tenant discussions; Gary said the city has been in contact with interested groups and will engage tenants as the grant agreement and tenant selection progress.
Councilors also discussed whether the grant terms or the property ownership would place any restrictions on use; staff said the grant agreement will define required uses and conditions. Next steps: staff will report back when the grant agreement arrives and convene outreach with potential tenants and stakeholders to develop occupancy and use plans.
