The City of Fenton committee on Dec. 12 approved a metal bench-and-canopy bid for athletic and pickleball facilities and forwarded Riverchase pool repair quotes to the full board for final action.
Parks staff presented three bids for bench coverings and recommended the lowest responsive metal bid; the committee approved the recommendation in a voice vote after discussing durability, flood resistance and lifecycle costs. Staff noted metal installations are surface-mounted to new concrete pads and estimated the difference between fabric and metal for the softball area at roughly $88,000.
Riverchase representatives then presented detailed quotes for pool repairs tied to pump damage from a power surge and numerous leak repairs driving high water bills last season. Midwest Pool submitted a package of repairs quoted at approximately $51,999.66; Superior provided a separate bid of about $5,475 for related waterproofing work. Riverchase asked the city to use $100,000 in the 2025 capital plan set aside for pool repairs to consolidate work and complete repairs before the May 2025 reopening.
Aldermen pressed staff to clarify which repairs — particularly items costing under $5,000 — remain the YMCA's contractual responsibility and which are the city's. City and Riverchase staff agreed to meet, reconcile the contract terms, and return answers in the full-board packet. The committee voted to forward the pool repair request to the full Board of Aldermen.
