Kansas board to vet outside vendor that offers targeted tests as disciplinary remedies

The Kansas Behavioral Sciences Regulatory Board on Sept. 8 discussed an outside company that provides structured remediation tasks — such as topic‑focused exams or written assignments — that a licensee could complete as part of a consent agreement.

Staff said the service would not cost the board; the licensee would pay vendor fees. Board members and CRC representatives welcomed the idea of an additional disciplinary tool but emphasized the CRC must see the specific content and scoring. Members asked staff to obtain references from other state boards that used the vendor, to confirm what deliverables the CRC would receive (full written answers versus score reports), and to verify security and confidentiality safeguards because the work would involve sensitive case information.

Several CRC and board members said the model has the advantage of requiring active learning and assessment rather than only an in‑service attendance. One participant observed that a short, test‑based remediation often produced greater practitioner engagement and retention than some other remediation options. The board directed staff to gather references and vendor security documentation and to arrange for a vendor briefing at a CRC meeting so committee members can assess whether vendor materials meet remediation goals before approving their use in consent agreements.
