BSRB reports rising licensee numbers, completed social-work survey and transition plan to state licensing system

The Behavioral Sciences Regulatory Board received an operations update on July 28 that highlighted growth in licensed professionals, survey work, finances and a planned move to the state's enterprise licensing system.
Executive Director David Fye said the total number of licensees overseen by the board has risen from roughly 12,100 in July 2015 to about 16,500 in July 2025. Staff completed a multi‑profession survey effort and closed social‑work survey responses with about 2,000 respondents across three license levels; staff have begun in‑depth analysis and will return with cross‑profession comparison reports.
On finance, Fye told members the agency started the fiscal year with a cash balance near $1,900,000 and closed the year with about $1,818,000. He reported expenditures for the year of approximately $1,100,000 and revenue of about $964,000; staff noted an unexpected roughly $120,000 in prior‑year revenue that requires follow-up with the department of fiscal management.
Fye also described plans to migrate the board’s licensing processes to the state's Acela enterprise licensing system. Staff and the Office of Information Technology Services have spent months mapping forms and processes; the project is on track but estimated to take about a year to 18 months before going live and will allow online applications, payments and a more integrated workflow.
Staff also announced an out‑of‑town board planning meeting scheduled for Sept. 29 in Manhattan, which will be open to the public, and noted investigator and staff training plans through CLEAR and other associations.
