Council hears development‑map additions and August calendar items, including VA clinic ribbon cutting and White Oak Roundabout update

Planning Director Jeff Treasonberg updated council on recent entries to the town’s development activity map and staff calendars during the July 29 work session.
Treasureberg noted five items of interest: a commercial proposal at Timber Drive East and Benson Road for a convenience store with fuel sales (Refuel Garner), a residential application titled 'Verdant' proposing about 52 single‑family detached units, a proposed rezoning near Mechanical and Jurgen, and two site‑plan level projects—a Panda Express rework in the Small Pines/Pinewinds Drive area and a Bank of America branch proposed for a subdivided parcel at White Oak (the former Drury hotel site).
Town Manager Miller provided calendar and project reminders: the town will move a rebranding update to the Aug. 19 meeting, expects to present a housing inventory report by late August or early September, and announced a VA clinic soft opening with an official ribbon cutting ceremony planned for Aug. 20 (tour at 9:30 a.m., ribbon cutting at 10:30 a.m.). Miller also said staff met with the White Oak roundabout contractor and expects road closures to be lifted the week of Aug. 18 ahead of the school calendar.
No formal actions were taken; council members asked clarifying questions about access, traffic counts and timing and directed staff to continue tracking these projects through the master‑plan and rezoning process.
