Superintendent highlights AP research IRB review, theater production and holiday concert schedule

Superintendent Grandy gave the board an update on school activities and upcoming events, saying AP research students at Arthur L. Johnson completed IRB review to ensure ethical standards for in‑school research and noting recent Holocaust speakers, student recognition programs and school parades.
"This past month at our different schools, for example, at ALJ, our AP research students moved through the IRB review process that helps assure that their research ... meets ethical standards and that their participants are at no risk," Grandy said. He also mentioned a Holocaust speaker visit to CHK students and a "making a difference" student recognition program at Frankie Henley.
Grandy announced the winter holiday concert series at the ALJ Auditorium: Valley Road School on Dec. 11, Carl H. Kumpf on Dec. 12, additional ALJ performances Dec. 17 and Frankie Henley Dec. 18; all concerts were listed to begin at 7 p.m. He said Friday the 20th would be the last day for students and teachers, that winter break would run from Dec. 23 through Jan. 1, and schools would reopen on Thursday, Jan. 2.
An unidentified school staff speaker reported on Arthur L. Johnson's theater department production of The Crucible and said the cast and crew "did a phenomenal job," described the National Honor Society's teacher-for-a-day fundraiser on Nov. 27 and previewed a Dec. 8 unified sports 'Jingle All the Way' 3K event.
No budget or staffing changes were announced as part of the superintendent’s report. The update focused on student activities, recent programs, and the district’s holiday schedule.
