BSRB reports on CE Broker rollout, license surveys and plan for background checks

At the Aug. 12 meeting the BSRB executive director summarized operations and legislative context that could affect license renewals and investigations.
David Fye said the board migrated its website to Granicus and was recognized by the Association of State and Provincial Psychology Boards for improved usability. He described a voluntary agreement with CE Broker to let licensees upload continuing-education documentation; about 1,600 licensees (roughly 11% of those eligible) have signed up since January. Fye said the BSRB is pursuing a future API link to integrate CE Broker with the online renewal workflow but that integration will likely take a year to 18 months.
Fye also reviewed a comprehensive set of licensee surveys. He said 2,000 social workers completed the most recent survey (a roughly 23'24% response rate) and that survey reports across all seven professions will produce both individual and comparative reports for the board.
On legislative oversight, Fye summarized a July 29 House select committee review of nursing-board operations and said such reviews prompted attention to renewal and reinstatement procedures. He described current BSRB procedures for notices (90/60/30 days before expiration) and a reinstatement policy that allows applicants who have been expired more than a year to return at half cost in some circumstances.
Fye said the board has revisited authority to require background checks (a statute passed earlier authorized background checks). Because three BSRB professions joined multistate compacts that require criminal-background checks, the board decided to begin requiring KBI background checks for initial licensure and reinstatement; Fye indicated the per-check cost would be about $57 paid to the KBI and that the board is still working through implementation logistics and possible opt-in pathways for compact eligibility.
Committee members asked for clarifying language and noted potential effects on investigations and staffing should background checks increase case referrals. Fye said staff will provide more details as the board finalizes logistics and policy guidance.
