Police Commission honors civilian, accepts surplus equipment and votes to go into closed session

Recognition and approvals - Civilian Commendation: The Commission presented a Civilian Commendation to Jeffrey Manheimer for intervening in a January 15 robbery in the 1800 block of Polk Street. Lieutenant Sergio Chin described Manheimer's intervention as risking personal safety to assist officers; Manheimer thanked the Commission for the award.
- Acceptance of equipment: The Commission approved a department request to accept 13 forklifts and one electric forklift battery charger through the California Public Safety Procurement Program (CPSPP #1033). Sergeant Matthews explained the program and the need to accept multiple units to assess condition and cannibalize parts as necessary. Commissioners asked about reallocation possibilities and program restrictions; department staff said equipment must remain under police control for law-enforcement use for the first year.
Votes and closed session - Adoption of minutes: Commissioners moved, seconded and approved the minutes for meetings on Jan. 28, Feb. 4, Feb. 11 and Feb. 25, 2015.
- Closed session: The Commission voted to go into closed session under San Francisco Administrative Code provisions. After returning to open session, the Commission voted not to disclose all or any portion of the closed-session discussions and then adjourned.
