PUC approves minutes, multiple contracts and Calaveras amendments; closed session settlements reported

At its Feb. 24 meeting the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission approved routine minutes and several consent and contract items, considered a high‑value procurement authorization separately, and accepted contract amendments tied to ongoing construction work.
The commission approved the minutes of its Feb. 10 meeting. The consent calendar was taken up and Commissioner (speaker 4) asked that Item 8C (authorization to advertise RFQ/RFP for agreement DB126 — a solicitation up to $51,000,000 over 15 years) be removed for separate discussion; the remaining consent items were approved and Item 8C was discussed and then approved with the caveat that staff return with a final budget and identify tradeoffs as design choices are made.
The commission approved agreement CS1010G to Friends of the Urban Forest (not to exceed $80,000, one year with renewals subject to commission approval) and authorized several contract amendments. Staff briefed the commission on amendments tied to the Calaveras project: the contractor encountered a subsurface landslide requiring excavation of additional material, which increased project scope and prompted requests to extend construction management contracts and adjust consultant costs. Staff explained the need for specialized consultants (NOA specialists, archaeologists) during excavation and recommended continuing the existing consultant team for continuity.
In closed session the commission reviewed litigation items; upon return the chair reported that items 16 and 17 were settled and the commission voted not to publicly disclose details.
