San Francisco — The Police Commission voted to approve the Awards Committee's recommendations, including Gold, Silver and Bronze Medals of Valor and other recognitions for officers involved in several incidents, most notably the department's response to the Asiana aircraft crash.
Commissioners considered a packet of nominations vetted by the Medal of Valor committee and the chief. The chief described the vetting process in which captains recommend officers, a panel of captains reviews nominations, and a two-thirds vote among civil-service captains is required for Gold. The packet included a notably large set of Gold Medals tied to the Asiana incident.
After calling for public comment and hearing none, a motion to approve the awards was moved and seconded and the commission recorded the vote as passed unanimously.
The commission did not record individual roll-call votes in the meeting transcript; the meeting record states the approval passed unanimously.
