San Francisco — The Police Commission on Jan. 8 voted to appoint John Pfitzinger to the city’s patrol special ranks after department staff said an administrative inquiry into missing paperwork and insurance listing issues had been resolved.
Inspector Monroe presented the packet recommending appointment and told the commission an IA review had been completed concerning administrative paperwork; the department said the outstanding items (current guard card, firearms card and insurance naming the city) were corrected.
Commissioner Chan said she was uncomfortable voting without a current application and full background paperwork and voted no, saying the commission should see the complete file given past compliance problems with patrol‑special programs. Other commissioners said the department had rechecked background and LexisNexis searches and recommended approval.
The roll call vote recorded President Mizuka — Aye; Commissioner Marshall — Aye; Commissioner DeJesus — Aye; Commissioner Chan — No; Commissioner Kingsley — Aye; Commissioner Loftus — Aye. (Vice President Turman had been noted as en route earlier in the meeting.) The motion carried and the appointment was approved.
Commissioners and department staff urged continued attention to compliance processes for patrol specials and recommended timely submission of documentation for future appointments.
