S.F. Police Commission accepts donated AEDs for Tenderloin station, moves two DGOs off calendar and votes to hold closed session

The San Francisco Police Commission on [December 2013] approved routine business, accepted a private donation of automated external defibrillators for the Tenderloin station and voted to hold a closed session on personnel and potential litigation.
Captain Jason Chernis presented a request that the commission recommend Board of Supervisors approval of a gift of 10 automated external defibrillators from John and Gus Constant of John's Grill, valued at approximately $15,000'$20,000, to be placed at the Tenderloin station. Chief Gregory P. Suhr said officers are frequently first on scene in cardiac events and that AEDs, paired with officer CPR training, can save lives. Commissioners thanked the donors and expressed support; the item was forwarded for approval.
Commissioners adopted the consent calendar without public opposition. Earlier in the meeting Commissioner Loftus requested that two draft general orders (DGOs) on domestic-violence investigations involving department members be taken off the calendar so staff and advocates could meet for further revisions; the commission agreed to continue those items and reintroduce them in January.
The commission voted to meet in closed session to discuss personnel matters and potential litigation. After the closed session the commission voted not to disclose any of the closed-session discussion under San Francisco Administrative Code Section 67.12(a).
Procedural notes and scheduling announced during the meeting: the next regular commission meeting was set for Jan. 8, 2014 (City Hall, Room 400) and a joint meeting with the Board of Supervisors Public Safety Committee was scheduled for Jan. 16 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. A follow-up agenda item on handling of sexual-assault kits and related policies was discussed for possible placement on a January/February agenda.
