SFPUC authorizes grants to support district-scale alternate water supplies

The San Francisco Public Utilities Commission authorized the general manager or the general manager’s designee to execute grant agreements supporting large, district-scale alternate water-source projects.
Assistant General Manager for Water Steve Ritchie described the proposal as an expansion of an existing program that supported alternative water supplies at the building scale (black water, gray water, rainwater) to allow district-scale systems serving multiple buildings to share localized alternative water resources. The commission moved, seconded and approved the item by voice vote; no separate public comments were recorded on the proposal.
Ritchie said the district definition would include more than one building and could cover six, eight or 10 buildings sharing an alternative water resource. Commissioners did not request removal of the item from the consent calendar for separate debate beyond clarifying understanding of the proposal.
Outcome: motion carried (voice vote). Staff were authorized to finalize grant agreements to support district-scale alternate water-source projects.
