PUC approves consent calendar, wholesale rates, contract contingency and Pier 70 MOU
Summary
At its May 8 meeting the PUC approved the consent calendar, adopted next year’s wholesale water rate schedule, increased a contract contingency for the Alameda siphon project, and authorized a Pier 70 shoreside power MOU with the Port of San Francisco.
The San Francisco Public Utilities Commission approved several action items by voice vote on May 8, including routine contracts, a wholesale rate schedule, contingency funding for a construction contract and an MOU with the Port of San Francisco.
The commission voted to approve the consent calendar (Item 8), which included contract modifications and awards: contract JOC-22 modification adding $500,000 and 3 years; contract JOC-28 modification adding $2,500,000 and 2 years; acceptance of work and final payment on a pipeline contract; award of the City distribution division paving contract (WD2673R) for $4,089,800; and award of an 8-inch ductile-iron pipe main installation contract (WD2446) for $1,381,000. The consent calendar was approved after no items were pulled for separate discussion.
For Item 10, the commission adopted the FY2012–13 wholesale water contract rate schedule as recommended by staff; Deputy CFO Charles Pearl reported no additional comments from wholesale customers during the comment period.
Item 11 authorized an increase of $4,500,000 to the previously approved contingency for construction contract WD2552 (Alameda siphon No. 4), bringing the contingency to $7,293,370 and authorizing the general manager to approve contract modifications.
Item 19 authorized the general manager to negotiate and execute an MOU with the Port of San Francisco to continue providing clean municipal power at Pier 70 and to provide the port $1,500,000 toward a new shoreside power system; public comment from the Environmental Council supported the measure for its air-quality benefits. The commission approved the Pier 70 MOU by voice vote.
