The commission voted to authorize the commission president to execute an employment contract extending General Manager Ed Harrington’s contract expiration from March 16, 2012 to Aug. 31, 2012, with a provision allowing a further extension by mutual agreement no later than Dec. 31, 2012.
During public comment, a speaker (David Pilpel) identified a technical error in Exhibit A and recommended correcting the exhibit date; Commissioner 12 formally introduced an amendment changing the date in Exhibit A to Feb. 14, 2012. The amendment passed and the main motion to extend the contract also passed by voice vote.
President Moran said the mayor supports an extension and asked commissioners to work with an executive search firm to present candidates to the mayor in a June–July timeframe to ensure an orderly transition. Commissioners discussed the search process and the timing required to give the mayor sufficient review time.
The extension is an interim personnel decision to preserve continuity while the executive search proceeds; the motion included the corrected exhibit date as amended on the record.
