SFPUC approves consent calendar and accepts final work on New Crystal Springs tunnel

The San Francisco Public Utilities Commission approved its consent calendar and moved to accept final work and authorize final payment for the New Crystal Springs Bypass Tunnel at its Sept. 27 meeting.
The consent calendar included awarding a wastewater sewer cleaning contract (various locations) to Proven Management Inc., and approving Amendment No. 2 to a water enterprise micro‑local business enterprise engineering design services agreement (CS953D) to extend the agreement six months with no change in value. No commissioners requested removal of consent items and the consent calendar passed by voice vote.
Separately, staff asked the commission to accept work performed by the joint venture Shank‑Balfour Beatty on the New Crystal Springs Bypass Tunnel (Contract WD‑2498). Miss Labonte reported the tunnel project was completed on time and with a contingency of only 3.1 percent — a notable result for a large tunneling contract. Commissioners moved, seconded and approved acceptance and final payment by voice vote.
Staff said a related closeout for the University Mound Reservoir project will be returned to the commission in early November. The acceptance of the New Crystal Springs Bypass Tunnel completes one of the Water System Improvement Program’s major construction milestones and was noted in the meeting as having earned an engineering award.
