During a GovTV segment embedded in the evening's broadcast, Mayor Ed Lee and supervisors announced the city will introduce a $1.8 million supplemental appropriation to shore up Ryan White HIV/AIDS services threatened by federal funding reductions.
"This $1,800,000 supplemental ... will be aimed at making sure the level of services that had been promised already this year will be maintained to the end of the fiscal year," Mayor Ed Lee said, citing the city's determination to sustain care and prevention programs. Supervisor Scott Wiener and others thanked the mayor and noted the services support housing, legal aid and clinical care for people living with HIV.
Following the funding announcement, Mayor Lee administered the oath of office to Christina Olague as the District 5 supervisor; Olague pledged to focus on job creation, public safety and affordable housing for her constituents.
The announcement and appointment were part of an on-screen GovTV program that ran alongside the commission's agenda and were recorded on the public feed available through SFGovTV.
Next steps: The pair of actions (supplemental appropriation and appointment) proceed through the board and mayoral processes; supervisors signaled intent to move the supplemental forward promptly to avoid service interruptions.
