OCC reports 622 complaints year-to-date through Sept. 30; sustained rate unchanged

Director Joyce Hicks presented the Office of Citizen Complaints’ monthly statistics to the Police Commission on Oct. 12, reporting 69 complaints filed in September and 622 complaints filed year to date through Sept. 30, 2011, a 6% decrease from the same period the prior year.
Hicks said the OCC had closed 618 cases as of Sept. 30, had 430 pending cases, and sustained 52 cases — an 8% sustained rate that she said matched the same period the previous year. The OCC also conducted 45 mediations during the period, representing about 7% of cases closed through mediation. Hicks told the commission she would provide the OCC's third-quarter statistical report on Nov. 9.
