Northern Station captain credits community partnerships as violence drops, outlines enforcement priorities

Captain Anne Mannix presented Northern Station's recent data and operations to the Police Commission and community on Jan. 27.
Mannix highlighted that Northern Station has 27 officers speaking 13 languages and said the district has seen a reduction in violent crime following collaborative work with community groups. "We're patrolling more intelligently, policing more intelligently," she said, and described the station's use of crime mapping and daily data from a station crime analyst.
The captain reported that Part 1 arrests increased about 10% year-over-year while OCC complaints in the district rose modestly (she cited one additional complaint and 23 additional allegations compared with the prior period). She described targeted anti-auto-burglary work including bait cars and specialized investigators and listed community outreach steps and a community advisory board tasked with creative responses.
Mannix also detailed a prostitution enforcement operation in the Polk Corridor that had led to 73 arrests to date (46 for prostitutes and 27 for customers), and she described traffic-enforcement emphasis at five high-collision intersections to reduce fatalities. She closed by recognizing the work of sergeants and investigators.
