Police commission adopts revised peer support policy (General Order 11.04)

Human resources director Alice Villa Gomez and Sergeant Mary Dunnigan, officer in charge of the Behavioral Science Unit, presented the proposed revisions and fielded commissioner questions about program staffing and coordination. Villa Gomez introduced newly assigned staff responsible for peer support oversight and said the unit now reports through Staff Services. "Mary is here to provide you with an overview and to address any questions that you may have," Villa Gomez said.
After the presentation, a commissioner moved to adopt the revised general order; the motion was seconded and the commission approved the revision "without objection." The order will guide management and coordination of peer-support services through the Behavioral Science Unit and Staff Services.
What happens next: Staff indicated they will present more detail on implementation and responsibilities as the department moves forward under the new organizational structure.
