Commission assigns disciplinary case, votes to withhold closed-session disclosure and adjourns

During routine administrative business the chair announced the assignment of disciplinary charges in case number ALWC09-175 to Commissioner Petra de Jesus to take evidence on a date to be determined. "On rotation, this matter would be assigned to commissioner de Jesus," the chair said.
The commission called for public comment on closed-session matters and received none. It then voted to move into closed session to consider personnel matters and pending disciplinary cases under cited authorities. A member moved "for non disclosure" regarding the closed-session discussion; the motion was seconded and carried with the commission returning to open session later.
Chief Gascon told the commission staff is working with the Police Officers Association on multiple personnel cases and anticipated "somewhere between 6 and 8 cases" coming to the commission next week where settlements are in discussion; he also said there are roughly 40 cases under review and about 8–10 cases where his recommendation could be termination.
After the closed session the commission moved to adjourn and concluded business at 8:40 p.m.
