San Francisco — The Office of Citizen Complaints (OCC) updated the Police Commission on outreach and caseload figures for March.
"As of yesterday, March 24, the OCC has opened 67 cases and closed 60 just for the month of March," the OCC director said, adding that the office has 218 open cases and 220 closed cases year‑to‑date. The director said the OCC has conducted two mediations in March with four more scheduled and has been doing targeted outreach to Tenderloin groups and a Spanish‑language public‑service announcement.
Commissioners asked whether complaints arising from a recent publicized traffic‑stop hearing had produced new reports; the director said "a number have come forth" and that staff are following up with individuals and clinic staff to develop those cases. The commission confirmed OCC materials and multi‑language brochures are available at commission meetings.
The OCC director said the office will continue outreach and expects mediation numbers for March to increase once scheduled sessions occur.
Next steps: commissioners asked the OCC to provide updates on the traffic‑stop complaint follow‑ups and to keep multilingual materials available at meetings.
