The Office of Citizen Complaints told the commission it opened 44 cases and closed 24 this month, sustaining one allegation among the closed cases, and reported year-to-date totals of 908 cases opened and 973 closed.
OCC Director Hicks outlined outreach and noted the OCC and commission had presented at a community event at the Ella Hill Hutch Community Center. OCC policy staff outlined progress on language access (translated brochures and LEP training videos) and on juvenile DGO 7.01 revisions adopted last quarter to strengthen protections for juveniles.
Elise Nicholson, OCC policy analyst, said the OCC is working on translations of key materials and training guides, and noted negotiations on an in-custody death protocol (DGO 8.12) that remain with the city attorney for review. Commissioners pressed the department and city attorney to expedite several DGOs and combine where appropriate to avoid long delays.
The commission closed public comment on the reports and moved on to policy items.
