OCC introduces new investigator; SFPD reports progress on officer‑involved shooting reviews

San Francisco — At its Oct. 15 meeting the Police Commission heard an Office of Citizen Complaints staffing announcement and a progress update on officer‑involved shooting investigations.
Director Hicks introduced Roxanne Hayes as a new line investigator for the Office of Citizen Complaints. Hicks summarized Hayes' background in city service, training experience and research work and welcomed her to the office.
Separately, Sergeant Mike Nevin of the Management Control Division presented a quarterly audit of officer‑involved shooting cases. Nevin said the office had completed nine investigations and had five investigations currently in progress. He reported that three summary letters had been completed and signed by the chief and noted that outstanding older cases were being advanced toward completion. Nevin also said the department was scheduling the next Firearm Discharge Review Board and coordinating with OCC for future presentations.
Commissioners praised the progress on clearing the backlog of cases and congratulated staff who assisted in the effort. The commission did not take additional action on the presentations at the meeting.
