Chief and OCC director report recent arrests, case and mediation metrics

During the Sept. 24 meeting the police chief summarized several recent enforcement actions and the OCC director presented oversight metrics and outreach information.
The chief reported three armed robberies between about 10 p.m. and midnight in three police districts that culminated in the observed getaway vehicle being stopped after a pursuit in the Mission District, producing an arrest that will be tied to three robbery cases. He also described a Broadway-area robbery near "Romulo and Broadway" in which five suspects were arrested; staff said the five suspects were from outside San Francisco. In a Taraval District daytime burglary, a perimeter response led to three arrests.
OCC Director Hicks reported that in September OCC opened 61 cases and closed 59; year-to-date figures were provided and an update on mediations noted 52 OCC mediations year-to-date compared with 46 last year. Hicks described NACOL (National Association for Civilian Oversight of Law Enforcement), noted materials were provided and that OCC staff member Jason Wechter serves on NACOL's board and was present in the audience.
Commission discussion acknowledged the reports and requested that OCC materials, including suggested standards and training for board and commission members, could be posted to the OCC website for public access. No formal policy action was taken on the reports at the meeting.
