The San Francisco Police Commission heard a report Wednesday from the police chief on recent enforcement operations and community outreach across the city.
"The department has been very busy this week," the chief said, describing meetings with community groups in Glen Park, North Beach and the Mission District and a stepped-up deployment of patrol and overtime resources to suppress violent activity. The chief said officers have worked with community-based organizations "to diffuse the situations" and to increase communication between residents and police.
The chief also announced operational results: "our gang task force went out and served 9 search warrants," leading to eight arrests, including one adult and seven juveniles, he said. He told commissioners that officers working in the Tenderloin observed street drug dealing and called an arrest team; two people from the East Bay were arrested, one on probation and one on parole. "One was also armed with a loaded firearm," the chief said, and officers recovered multiple ounces of crack cocaine from one arrestee.
Commissioners praised the department's presence at community meetings and asked staff to continue outreach: Commissioner Grama thanked the command staff for attending meetings in the Mission and urged that caseworkers attend lineups at Mission Station to better assist victims and families. The chief said field operations and the investigations bureau will continue coordinating with neighboring agencies and community partners.
No formal vote was taken on the chief's report. The chief closed his remarks by offering to answer questions from commissioners and to continue community engagement and enforcement efforts.
