Commission hears quarterly update on officer-involved shooting investigations; open cases reduced to ten

Sergeant Joe McFadden and Sergeant Mike Nevin briefed the commission on July 16 about the status of officer-involved shooting investigations, reporting that staff have made steady progress clearing older cases and moving cases toward disposition.
The OIS team submitted eight summary letters signed by the assistant chief and the chief of police; staff said two of the open cases had been scheduled for the Firearm Discharge Review Board and that, overall, the number of open investigations had fallen to 10. Sergeant Nevin credited a combination of staff diligence and renewed resources for the progress.
Commissioners praised the work and asked about processes to avoid future backlogs. Assistant Chief Lynch and the OIS team described internal reorganization and a proposed continuous workflow to prevent older investigations from languishing.
No formal action was taken by the commission on this report; commissioners thanked staff and asked for continued updates at the next quarterly report.
